The barn was owned by a family who had been farming there since the late 1800s, when it was Aurora Colony, a commune of German and Swiss emigrants. The colony began as a Utopian society where the property was shared and the community worked together in agriculture and textile manufacturing. To this day, the houses and buildings from the Aurora Colony represent one of the largest concentrations of structures built by German craftsmen in the Pacific Northwest.
Originally used to house livestock, this barn was later used as storage for farm equipment, and finally retired and disassembled. Now, the planks are being given new life as sliding barn doors and accent wall paneling. This wood will add a taste of true Pacific Northwest history and bucolic charm to your home, and it’s sure to be a compelling conversation piece.
Because of the authentic salvaged nature of this lumber, doors can vary in color, grain, knot patterns, and patina. Reclaimed barn doors may include nail holes, growth rings, faded spots, and non-uniform grain patterns. Colors can range widely from door to door, from light gray to warm brown to faded black. Please refer to the gallery photos above for an idea of variations you may see in your door.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, and can't guarantee against warping or damage if you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-800-694-5977and we will be happy to help!
If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-800-694-5977. We'd be happy to help!
When choosing a sliding barn door size, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway slightly to minimize gaps. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule for barn doors. In this case, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door.
We offer the most common sliding barn door sizes online, but we are able to make doors in any size you need. Please call our team at 1-800-694-5977 for custom door options.
