This oak comes from a barn that once stood in the Great Smoky Mountains near Knoxville, Tennessee. It was re-sawn with a circular saw, giving it distinctive saw marks. It sat unused in Spokane for a while until we got wind of it. When we saw how beautiful it was, we decided to buy it and use it. We refinished it with great care, to preserve its character and extend its longevity. We’re offering it in our Rancher Vertical Plank design, a simple and streamlined silhouette with four vertical planks and two horizontal planks to hold the door together. We wanted the wood to be the star of the show, so we kept the design simple and rustic, in keeping with the wood’s rural origins.

Reclaimed wood is a sustainable choice because it makes use of what we already have. But reclaimed wood also has its own story. Before it becomes yours, it’s already had a life of its own. This batch of wood comes from a barn whose origins are shrouded in mystery. We do know that it was built in the 1900s. It comes from a quiet place, in the mountains near Knoxville, East Tennessee. A place with thick forests of poplar, mountain silverbell, and American ash. A place that smells like honeysuckle come summertime, where eagles fly above the trees. A place with a centuries-long tradition of ballad singing and rugged mountain living. Our Tennessee Oak Barn Door lends the spirit of its Tennessee mountain home to yours.

Please note: Because of the authentic salvaged nature of this lumber, doors can vary in color, grain, knot patterns, and patina. Reclaimed barn doors may include nail holes, growth rings, faded spots, and non-uniform grain patterns.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, and can't guarantee against warping or damage if you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-800-694-5977and we will be happy to help!

If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-800-694-5977. We'd be happy to help!

When choosing a sliding barn door size, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway slightly to minimize gaps. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule for barn doors. In this case, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door.

We offer the most common sliding barn door sizes online, but we are able to make doors in any size you need. Please call our team at 1-800-694-5977 for custom door options.
