Classy Brass

RealCraft is excited to announce our newest hardware line…brass hardware! Brass décor stands the test of time, while providing a high class look. There are many benefits to brass sliding door hardware. Read below to learn more about the perks of this exquisitely gorgeous metal.

Durability:

Brass is often used for plumbing because it is a highly durable material. Brass does not easily crack or disintegrate. When used for hot water distribution, brass lasts longer then any other metal. It is also fire resistant.

Corrosion Resistant:

Among all the metals, brass is one of the most corrosion resistant. Those who live near salt water don’t have to worry about a thing with brass! Great for exterior and interior use, brass also does not rust.

fire pit making brass

Rich History:

Brass is made from a blend of zinc and copper. It was discovered by accident in the area now known as Eastern Turkey. While making bronze, metalworkers would end up making brass without knowing it, because tin (used to make bronze) and zinc are often found together.

By about 20 BC metalworkers around the Mediterranean Sea were able to distinguish zinc from tin and started making coins out of brass. Around 300 A.D. brass metalworking began to flourish in what is now Germany and the Netherlands.

Recyclable:

Another benefit of brass is that it can be recycled or reused. So instead of ending up in a landfill, it ensures a continued supply for many years.

brass musical instruments

Musical:

The high malleability and workability, resistance to corrosion, and acoustic properties of brass, have made it the usual metal of choice for construction of musical instruments. Collectively known as brass instruments, these include the trombone, tuba, trumpet, and many other horns.
