How To Create A Luxury Laundry Room

Does your laundry room feel a little…neglected?

Is it drab and hard to use? Do you dread facing the next load because the space just doesn't work for you?

Then it's time for an upgrade. The laundry room might seem like a purely utilitarian space in your home, but chances are you spend a lot of time using it--especially if you have young kids or rambunctious pets constantly tracking in dirt and spilling things. Optimizing your laundry room to be more beautiful and easier to use is an investment worth making. Here are six updates that will make your laundry room a joy to use.

1. Upgrade the Flooring

Luxury Laundry Room Floor

If your laundry room floor is looking tired, give it a facelift with new tile or luxury vinyl. Both materials are suitable for a space with a lot of water and moisture. You can also add a beautiful rug to make the space more inviting. However, we don’t recommend hardwood floors for laundry rooms as they aren’t water resistant.

2. Make It Easy To Use

Take advantage of vertical space in your laundry room by adding shelves or cabinets. This will give you more room to store laundry supplies, cleaning products, and extra towels and sheets. Include drying racks or rods where you can hang clothes to dry if space allows.

You can even add a second sink if you have the space--this is especially convenient if you have a lot of family members or if you frequently entertain guests. Having a deep sink makes it easy to launder cumbersome items like shower curtains, sofa cushion covers, and duvet covers.

If your laundry room is small, consider adding a folding table to create a work surface area. If you have the space to install countertop work spaces, granite or marble adds a super luxe touch.

3. Update the Walls

Painting your laundry room in a chic color can make the whole space feel more upscale. If your laundry room is dark or doesn't have windows, keep the color on the lighter side--opt for a sage green or a soft neutral like dove gray or off white.

If you want to add pattern and texture to your laundry room, consider wallpaper. Wallpaper is a great way to add personality to any space, and it's especially well-suited to laundry rooms because it's easy to clean. We recommend a light, bright color scheme.

4. Make It Brighter With Multiple Sources Of Light

Laundry Room lights

Good lighting is a must in any room, but it's especially important in the laundry room. After all, you need to be able to see what you're doing when you're treating stains and dirt. Consider adding skylights or windows to your laundry room to let in natural light. Alternatively, you can install task lighting underneath cabinets or shelving. And hanging a pretty chandelier or pendant light adds a touch of glamour. Upscale fixtures are one of the simplest ways to take your laundry room from boring to fabulous.

5. Add Decorative Touches

If you have shelving or space on your countertop, add house plants, fresh cut flowers, ornaments, or other decorative touches. This will make the room feel more personal. You can even add art on the walls! Don't let the perceived notion of the laundry room as a utility space stop you from making it your own.

6. Add A Sliding Barn Door

Sliding barn doors not only add a touch of modernity but also help you save space. Since barn doors slide parallel to the wall, you will have more room for space-optimization since you can place items and furniture close to the wall. This is particularly true for smaller laundry rooms, our ones in tight hallways. Lastly, barn doors also help with mobility since opening a sliding door with a laundry basket is way easier than a traditional swinging door.
