Wood Species 101: Douglas Fir

This week we are going to talk about Douglas Fir! This species was named after the person who first identified its family and variety in North America, the Scottish botanist David Douglas.

The Douglas Fir tree is easily spotted in the Pacific Northwest of the US and in some parts of Canada. The tree itself is categorized as a medium-size specimen. However, in some areas, the tree can grow up to an impressive size of 330 feet!

You might also recognize this species for its seasonal appearance at the end of the year. The Douglas Fir tree is one of the tree species used as Christmas Trees! 

The construction industry loves Douglas Fir due to its relatively lightweight and strength and resistance.
