MATERIALS + FINISHES

RealCraft offers twenty different wood options, including domestic and select exotic species.

Adding a finish to your door protects it and makes it eligible to be covered by our warranty. A clear finish also brings out the color and detail of the wood grain. Stain finishes can intensify or adapt the color of the wood and provide additional protection against fading. Visit our wood species page to learn more.

We offer the following finish options:

  • Clear Satin Eurofinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that conditions, seals, and finishes the wood.
  • Oil Stain EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that stains, seals, and finishes the wood.

Please note that due to extended delivery times, your loan payment(s) may be due before you receive your purchase.

PRODUCT CARE

Interior doors finished with Osmo should have the finish touched up annually. With no sanding needed to spot reapply, this is easily done, as Osmo can be brushed or rubbed on anywhere the wood looks like it's lost its luster. Full refinishing of interior doors is recommended once every ten years or so.

SIZING

When determining the size of your barn door, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway to minimize gaps and provide some sound-muffling for privacy. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule of thumb for barn doors. For example, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door. If you would like more sound sealing, then a 2-inch overlap on either side is best. To make sure it looks as intentional as possible, your barn door should also completely cover any molding on the door opening when closed. So if you have molding, you’llneed to factor that into your measurements as well.

A Sliding Barn Door With A Touch Of The Mountains

Why is the chevron design so appealing? Let us count the ways: it mirrors the patterns found in nature, from fern fronds to feathers. It’s symmetrical without being plain. And for our purposes, it showcases the beauty of real wood. This sliding chevron barn door is one of our best sellers because it adds an instant focal point to any space—in a design that will always look stylish.

Choose from twenty different wood species to make it your own. We love this door design in woods with striking grain patterns like Sapele Mahogany, Quarter Sawn White Oak, or Walnut. You could also opt for an exotic option like Wenge or Padauk. Their vibrant natural colors will really make a statement.

The Mountain Chevron Door goes well with many décor schemes including:

  • Traditional
  • Farmhouse
  • Modern
  • Transitional

The Mountain Chevron Barn Door is 1 ¾" thick.

Skilled artisans make all our doors by hand onsite in Gig Harbor, a small seaport town on the Puget Sound in Washington State.

RealCraft offers twenty different wood species from American classics like Walnut and Cherry to exotic woods like Bubinga and Zebrawood. One of the reasons we love real wood so much is that it retains the character of its natural habitat. Wood species respond differently to humidity and temperature conditions. If you aren't sure which wood species to pick, call us at 1-253-853-3815.

For frequently asked questions about choosing a door and hardware see our FAQ page. If you're not sure what species is right for your space, or want to see the wood in person, you can order samples here.

Please note that doors will ship separately from sliding hardware when purchased together. Doors are pictured with hardware for context. Sliding hardware is sold separately, and not included with the purchase of a door. Doors are not pre-drilled for hardware. If you order a door and a hardware kit, we are unable to ship hardware installed on doors due to the risk of damage in transit.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, and can't guarantee against warping or damage if you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-253-853-3815 and we’ll be happy to help!

If you want to customize your door even further, we can make your dream a reality! Remember that customization will add to the lead time. If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-253-853-3815.

Financing

We’re proud to offer Shop Pay Installments! Buy today and pay in 4 or more payments starting at 0% APR. If you finance your purchase with Affirm (Shop Pay Installments), your first payment is due approximately two weeks after your purchase is finalized. Please note that due to extended delivery times, your loan payment(s) may be due before you receive your purchase.

When calculating the size of your barn door, we recommend to make the door large enough that it overlaps the doorway slightly. This minimizes gaps and provides some sound-muffling for privacy. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule of thumb for barn doors. For example, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door. If you would like more sound sealing, then a 2-inch overlap is best. To make sure the door system looks tidy, your barn door should also completely cover any molding on the door opening when closed. So if you have molding, you’ll need to factor that into your measurements as well.

We highly recommend adding a clear finish to your door to protect it and make sure that it is eligible for coverage under our warranty. A clear finish not only protects your door, it also enhances its beauty while preserving its texture. Clear finish brings out the color and detail of the wood grain, but keeps things Real.

We offer the following finish options:

  • White Primer: Added to Paint Grade Hardwood. For this option, we use only high-quality hardwoods like European Beech or Red Grandis. These species provide a smooth surface for paint.
  • Clear Satin Eurofinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that conditions, seals, and finishes the wood. This is our recommended finish for all doors because it retains the wood’s texture and natural color.
  • Oil Stain EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that stains, seals, and finishes the wood.

The door is absolutely beautiful. It is great having a real handcrafted door made to perfection. Our contractor has asked that we have all interior doors made the same way and that is our plan.
