How do double doors create an unforgettable entryway? Ask homeowner Paula, who purchased a set of custom double doors from us last year. Like most homeowners, Paula and her husband Brooks always wanted an entryway that made a bold statement. The problem was that their original entry door looked generic and, well, boring. When it came time to renovate their Los Angeles home, they knew the door would need updating, too. From bland to distinctive, our Mid Century Modern Double Doors transformed their home's facade. Keep reading to discover what the process of designing, buying, and installing a custom RealCraft door is really like.
How long had you been looking for a set of custom double doors before you found us?
Paula: Actually, I hit the jackpot when I found this door. My mom was visiting from upstate New York. We're in Los Angeles. And my husband and I decided, let's look at doors, because we were remodeling our house. We were getting 38 new windows. So we didn't want the ugly red little cookie cutter door that we had.
We wanted a grander entrance to our house. So as soon as I got on the computer, [the RealCraft double door set] was the second one that I found. And I ran it by my husband. He asked me, do you love this one? And I said, yes. I'm the type of person that I don't get something unless I love it. I really have to think about it. Usually if I go to a store, a shop, and I'm like, oh, I love this...if I go home, and I'm still thinking about it, then I'll go back and get it.
Like I don't just buy to buy stuff. I really have to love it. And my husband fell in love with the door, too. And my mom told me, you've got to get this door. And then, of course, when we saw the price tag, we had a heart attack! But that's okay.
We were going to do it big. And it was a perfect addition because we were renovating, it was the right time to do it. And it really is a grand entrance when you come into our house.
Would you describe a few of the reasons why you decided to buy our product?
Paula: The quality, the quality. We knew it was going to be quality. We looked at the thickness of the door, and it was also the look of the door, the aesthetics of what it would add to our house.
We also liked all the choices that we had, because you could do the different kinds of glass, like the frosted glass or the one that looked like rain. So there were so many different choices. We could do one panel. We could do the double door. And we just thought it was going to be quality.

When it came time to actually buy the door, what was the purchasing process like for you?
Paula: It was a little confusing to make sure we had every part of the door. Because as a regular person, we did not know what we needed.
We called [sales consultant] Chris to help us figure out what we needed. Because we didn't know that, like, something was an add-on or what would be the right thing for our door...That's why we ended up calling a couple times to figure out exactly what we needed. We did also get our contractor involved.
How are the doors holding up? Have you had any issues with them at all?
No, we haven't. Our door faces the sun in the afternoon. It's direct sunlight...so I wanted to get something to protect it.
So Chris recommended a wood finish product. I sent him pictures. And we got that product.
It was out of stock when I went online to buy it. But I mentioned it to Chris, and he said, "we actually have some here. I will send it right out".
And it was that easy. We love Chris. If we email him, he gets right back to us. And he is always incredibly helpful and kind and always has something to help us with our door.
Do you have any advice for other homeowners who might be considering our product?
Paula: The person that's installing the door needs to be knowledgeable. My advice is make sure you have somebody that knows doors, not somebody that's a novice or just trying it out for the first time, especially with an expensive door like that.

How likely are you to recommend our product to a friend or family member?
Paula: Very likely. When I say I love our front door, I mean, we've been in this renovation for two years, and everything has gone wrong, every single thing, except for this door. And it is my favorite thing that we've done.
We put our black window frame windows in...and they're pretty, and the house looks pretty with all these new additions. But that door is my number one favorite thing that we have done and added to our house.
I'm very, very picky with things. Like I said, if I don't love it, I don't buy it. And I love, love, love, love this door.
It makes a statement, and that was like our splurge, our big splurge. I mean, did we need a door that expensive? No.
But my husband and I both loved it, and that was it. It was a no-brainer.
