How to Buy Flat Track Barn Door Hardware

1. GO TO OUR FLAT TRACK HARDWARE OPTIONS:

3. SELECT TRACK LENGTH:

The first option is track size. To determine what size track you need, multiply your door's width by 2. The track length should be double the width of your door. If your door does not exactly match our track lengths, round up to the bigger size and add an adjustable end stop. If you will have two biparting doors on the track, add the width of both doors together and multiply by 2 for your hardware kit length.

4. SELECT FINISH (THE COLOR OF YOUR HARDWARE):

Here are some examples of our finish options. Black and oil-rubbed bronze are textured, powder-coated steel. White, metallic, and specialty colors are smooth powder-coated finishes. Brass and stainless steel are brushed, solid metal. Raw, unfinished steel is just that - steel with no color or protective coating added. It will patina and show signs of wear for a rustic or industrial look.

5. SELECT THE NUMBER OF DOORS ON YOUR TRACK:

This will determine how many sets of hangers you get. For one door, you'll receive one pair of hangers and any selected accessories. For two doors, you'll receive two pairs of hangers and accessories.

6. SELECT YOUR WHEEL STYLE:

  • Steel Wheels: Standard wheel option. Wheels are made of solid steel in the same finish as you selected for your track.
  • Steel Wheels with Polymer Hush Insert: Wheels are made of solid steel in the same finish as you selected for your track, and have a black polymer insert lining the wheel where it makes contact with the track. This helps the wheels glide along the track more quietly, and takes away the metal-on-metal sound.
  • Black Polymer Wheels: Instead of steel, the entire wheel is made of black polymer "hush" material so it will glide along the track quietly.
  • Stainless Steel Wheels: Wheels are made from solid, brushed stainless steel. Stainless steel wheels pair well with black hardware tracks, providing a high-contrast look.
  • Stainless Steel Hush Wheels: Stainless steel wheel with a black polymer hush insert lining the wheel where it makes contact with the track.

7. FLOOR GUIDE:

A floor guide for the bottom of the door is important because it prevents the door from swaying on the track. A T-guide fits into a groove cut into the bottom of the door, which is 5/16" wide and 1/2" deep. A C-Guide mounts to the floor and hugs the sides of the door, keeping it in position as it slides. The wall mounted roller guide is a similar concept, with a bracket mounted to the wall behind the door and a polymer wheel to guide it in the front, wedging the door in between and rolling it along as it moves.

cl
T-Guide: Keeps the door aligned and sliding smoothly, all while remaining hidden from sight. Installed in the floor, it requires a slot cut into the bottom of the door.
cl
Adjustable C-Guide (for door thicknesses 1” and greater): Works the same way as the standard C-Guides, but it comes in two pieces to accommodate your door thickness.
cl
Wall Mounted Stay Roller: Perfect option if you don’t want to mount your bottom guide to the floor. This guide mounts to the wall and can accommodate door thicknesses from 1-1/2” to 2-3/4”.

8. OTHER ACCESSORIES:

Teardrop lock: A teardrop lock is a privacy latch that mounts to the door or the jamb and will fit most applications. The door should have minimal clearance between it and the wall if you are using a teardrop lock. It will not work if you are using a ledger board or standoff extension rings to extend the hardware track from the wall. Please call us if you have questions.

Stainless Steel

Drywall anti-crush rings will protect your drywall when mounting flat track hardware directly to the wall. (Wood blocking in the wall is required to mount your hardware directly to drywall.)

1/4" standoff extensions can be used to add extra clearance to achieve clearance that is desired (recommended minimum clearance 3/8”) between the wall and the door.

A soft stop is a mechanism installed to the back of the track and is designed to bring the door to a slow close.

Adjustable end stopsare metal pieces used at the end of the track to prevent the door(s) from sliding off the end. Standard end stops are fixed at the ends of the track (the L-shaped piece seen above), and will come with your hardware kit as a standard component. However, you will need an adjustable end stop if your track is longer than twice the width of your door. When you select an adjustable end stop, you will receive one standard stop, and one adjustable stop to place anywhere on the track.

9. SELECT YOUR QUANTITY:

This is where you’ll select the amount of kits you need, for example if you need multiple sets of the same exact kit, you would increase your quantity. If you need to make adjustments to a second kit, add your first kit to your cart, then refresh the page and begin your selections again.

Now you’re ready to check out! Go ahead and click your cart in the top right corner and finish the checkout process. If at any time you need assistance, have questions, or feel unsure of what to choose, please give us a call at 1-800-694-5977 and we will be glad to assist you.
