Osmo Interior TopOil Food-Safe HardWax Oil Finish

Please note: In California, Osmo TopOil cannot be shipped to Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, or Riverside counties due to restrictions.

Osmo TopOil is a high solid food-safe hardwax oil wood finish. It's resistant to common spills, including wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk, and water. These liquids will tightly bead on the surface without leaving any marks, making it easy to maintain clean, beautiful wood surfaces in your kitchen.

A Food Safe Oil Finish for Countertops, Cutting Boards, and More

This food-safe wood finish is just what you need to protect your wood countertops and cutting boards. It is made of natural oils and waxes to condition the wood and protect it from common spills. It's specifically optimal for protecting surfaces made of solid wood or edge-glued panels indoors. It is also suitable for cork and OSB. The high solid content of Top Oil makes it hard-wearing and long lasting, perfect for wood surfaces that see heavy use, like cutting boards and countertops. It's also appropriate for table tops, buffets and sideboards, or other areas where food is served. It's what we use on all of our Butcher Block Countertops, because it beautifully enhances the wood's natural color and grain pattern.

    Osmo Top Oil Benefits

    • DIN and EN rated for direct contact with food
    • Ideal for countertops, tabletops, and cutting boards
    • When dry, safe for humans, animals, and plants
    • Resistant to common liquid spills like water, juice, tea, cola, and wine
    • Saliva-resistant and sweat-proof
    • Micro-porous, breathable finish which does not crack, peel, or flake
    • No sanding necessary for spot repairs or future applications
    • Made in Germany – Conforms to strict German and European norms

    Preparation

    • Ensure that real wood kitchen work surfaces and worktops are clear of dirt, debris and other contaminates before applying Osmo Top Oil.
    • New or previously oiled work tops can be lightly sanded back to a 120 – 150 grit finish.
    • To remove existing paint or varnishes, use a suitable paint or varnish remover.
    • If desired, fill small cracks, larger joints or holes with an appropriate filler.

    Application

    BY HAND WITH A CLOTH/RAG

Apply three thin coats with a lint-free cloth.

    1. Scrub product into wood using cloth in a circular or figure 8 pattern.
    2. Allow roughly 15-minutes for oils to penetrate.
    3. Working with the grain, remove all excess product from surface.
    4. Allow 8-10 hours drying time before recoating.
    5. Apply second and third coats following previous steps.

    BY HAND WITH A BRUSH

Apply two thin coats with an Osmo Natural Bristle Brush or similar brush.

    1. With a brush, work product into wood working in all directions, ensuring a thin application
    2. Allow roughly 15-minutes for oils to penetrate
    3. Working the brush with the grain, evenly distribute all product on surface and remove excess
    4. There should be no visible high-build or film – if this is observed, product is over applied
    5. Allow 8-10 hours drying time before recoating
    6. Apply second coat following above procedure
    7. Clean brushes using Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner or Turpentine

CAUTION: cloths, steel wool, or other materials saturated with this product are combustible and may spontaneously catch on fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after use, place rags, steel wool or waste in a sealed water-filled metal container.  See product information page attachment in Technical tab for more information.

    Aftercare

Oiled surfaces should not be cleaned with a steam cleaner or steam mop as this degrades the performance of the finish.

    Regular Cleaning

Kitchen work surfaces and table tops that have been treated with Osmo Top Oil can be cleaned with Osmo Wash and Care and a damp cloth, then wiped dry. Please note that household bleach products can damage the wood finish. We don't recommend the use of bleach products to clean surfaces treated with Osmo.

    Deep Cleaning

Stubborn marks and stains can be removed by using Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner that both cleans and regenerates oiled surfaces.

    Renovation

Renovating is easy. Just clean and re-treat worn areas with a thin coat of Osmo Top Oil – no sanding needed. No repair marks will be visible if applied thinly and appropriately.

    Finishing

If a deeper satin finish is required, the oiled surface can be polished with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner once the surface has fully dried.
