A Standout Minimalist Front Door With Sidelights

The Mid-Century Modern Pivot Door with Side Window is inspired by the clean lines and minimalistic aesthetics of the mid-century era. This door features vertical wood planks accompanied by a single offset vertical glass panel. This design provides both privacy and natural light. True to the MCM design ethos, this door balances form and function.

The pivot hinge mechanism allows for larger and taller doors, efficiently distributing the weight for smooth operation. Choose between a freestyle turnstile pivot or the M+ pivot, which offers adjustable holding and damping, allowing the door to stay open when needed. The M+ pivot also features adjustable closure speeds, making it ADA Friendly Access Compatible.

Like all RealCraft entry doors, the Mid-Century Modern Pivot Door is available in twenty wood species, including American classics like Premium Walnut, Hickory, and Cherry, as well as exotic options like Padauk, and Wenge. Handcrafted by skilled artisans with traditional joinery techniques, this door is built to last. It's imbued with the passion and expertise of its makers.

Our exterior pivot doors include an exclusive white oak threshold and brush sweep to prevent water damage to the jamb. We test-fit the pivot hardware in the threshold to ensure correct placement, making installation a breeze. We offer three options for door jambs, including the same species as the door for a cohesive look. Sidelights and transoms with insulated glass can be added to further enhance your entryway. Choose from a modern frameless look or a framed, traditional style for sidelights and transoms.

Skilled artisans make all our doors by hand onsite in Gig Harbor, a small seaport town on the Puget Sound in Washington State.

Wood Species

RealCraft offers twenty different wood species, ranging from traditional to exotic.

One of the reasons we love real wood so much is that it carries the character of its natural habitat. Wood species respond differently to humidity and temperature conditions. If you aren't sure which wood species to pick, call us at 1-800-694-5977.

If you want to see our wood in person before making a selection, you can order samples here. Check out our wood buying guide here.

Note that exterior Cedar doors come with a Douglas Fir jamb.

Transom & Sidelights

RealCraft's Transom and Sidelights are made with the same wood as your door, for a cohesive and premium look.

What is a transom?

A transom window refers to a window above a door slab, typically (but not always) separated by a transverse horizontal structural beam.

What are sidelights?

Sidelights are narrow windows that flank a door slab. You can have one side light or two, one on each side of the door. You can also combine one or two sidelights with a transom. Sidelights make your entry door look more visually striking.

Benefits of transom and sidelights:

  • Our transoms and sidelights are built with the same wood species as your door, for a beautiful custom look
  • Lets in more natural light
  • Improves curb appeal
  • Increases home value
  • Completely transforms your entryway

Please note that RealCraft Sidelights and Transoms are non-operable, meaning they do not open or close. To add an operable side light or transom, please contact our custom sales department at253-853-3811

Pivot Options

The System M+ Pivot Door Hardware is a versatile top pivot designed to work with all pivot doors. It offers the ability to position the system 70 mm from the door's side, which helps reduce unused space while maintaining the distinctive pivot door movement. The System M+ can be placed in any position between 70 mm and the center of the door, making it suitable for many project specifications. With these features, the  M+ is an excellent choice for those seeking a flexible and efficient pivot system for their project.

The M+ Pivot Hardware Benefits

  • Dual-acting pivot + closer
  • Minimum thickness: 1-9/16" (40mm)
  • Hold positions at ±90° and 0°
  • Closing to 0° from ±90° and ±125°
  • Adjustable Damper Control
  • Adjustable Back-check providing resistance upon opening
  • Unlimited door height
  • Class 5 Corrosion Resistance
  • Maintenance-free
  • ADA-compliant models are available
  • Three independent speed adjustments.

Door Handing & Swing Direction

To determine door handing: Stand with your back to the side of the jamb where the pivot will be closest to. Then let your arm be the door and note whether the door swings to your right or your left. If it swings to your left, it is a left-handed door. If it swings to your right, it is a right-handed door.

To determine “inswing” or “outswing”: First, stand outside your house. Then, when your door opens does it open into the house? Then it is an inswing door. Does it open out from the house? Then it is an outswing door.

Note: Inswing doors are more typical for entry doors.

Pre-Hung Door Jambs

There are three options for jamb material:

  • Hemlock, the industry standard
  • Douglas Fir, an upgraded option
  • Door Matched wood, for a premium look

Jamb measurements: Door width plus 2 3/8" (plus another 1/2" with concealed hinges)

Minimum rough opening: Door width plus 2 3/4" (plus another 1/2" with concealed hinges)

Please note that exterior casing/trim is not included.

Pre-Hung Door Threshold & Sweep

Pre-hung doors come with an exclusive white oak threshold. Our white oak threshold offers superior water protection and wear resistance. We use a pure silicone, adjustable Swiss weather sweep set into the bottom of the door. Kerfed weatherstripping is standard. If you need an ADA threshold, call us.

Door Maintenance

Our doors are designed to be low maintenance. If you live in a place that has big temperature changes between seasons, you may need to tighten or lubricate your hinges from time to time. You should also adjust the door sweep to make sure it keeps the door sealed against the elements over time.

Our Osmo oil hardwax finishes may need a refresh every 1-3 years depending on their exposure to elements. Large temperature & humidity changes, direct exposure to sunlight, and seaside environments all can affect how often a door needs refreshing. Unlike plastic based varnishes, Our Osmo oil hardwax finishes don’t chip or flake off, so you don’t have to sand them to refinish. Simply clean the wood surface and reapply the finish, removing excess and rubbing in for best results.

If your door gets dirty (weather, pets, children, etc.) you can clean it with a gentle soap and water. If you have to clean the hinges for any reason, make sure they dry thoroughly.

We highly recommend adding a clear finish to your door to protect it and make sure that it is eligible to be covered by our warranty. A clear finish not only protects your door, it also enhances its beauty and brings out the color and detail of the grain. Visit our wood species page to learn more.

We offer the following finish options:

  • White Primer: Added to Paint Grade Hardwood. For this option, we use only high-quality hardwoods like European Beech or Red Grandis. These species provide a smooth surface for paint.

FAQ

A pivot door is a unique and contemporary door design that operates on a rotating axis, unlike traditional hinged doors. Pivot doors use a pivot point on the top and bottom of the door, creating a smooth and seamless motion. These doors are known for their elegant appearance, spacious entryways, and architectural appeal.

A pivot door works by utilizing a pivot point at the top and bottom of the door, allowing it to swing open in a smooth, circular motion. The pivot point is usually offset from the center, providing a larger entrance and a unique visual appearance.

Yes, pivot doors can be as secure as traditional hinged doors. RealCraft pivot doors are built with solid wood and high-quality hardware, ensuring security and durability. The M+ pivot system, for example, features latch control, ensuring that latching bolts remain closed and doors cannot be easily forced open.

Maintaining a pivot door is simple. Regularly clean the door surface with a damp cloth and mild detergent, and check the pivot hardware for any signs of wear or damage. Periodically lubricate the pivot mechanism with a suitable lubricant to ensure smooth operation and prevent squeaking.

To adjust pivot door hinges, first identify the specific adjustment points on your pivot hardware system. Most systems, including the M+ pivot system, allow for adjustments to the damper control, speed control, and latch control.

Installing a RealCraft pivot door is a straightforward process, thanks to the pre-installed hardware on the door jamb and threshold. This ensures a smoother and more efficient installation. Start by preparing the doorway, ensuring it is level, square, and plumb. Then, follow the provided instructions to attach the pivot hardware to the door and door frame. Once properly aligned, adjust the pivot system settings as needed.

The pre-fitted hardware on RealCraft pivot doors simplifies installation by ensuring that all necessary components are professionally installed and properly aligned before shipment. This reduces the need for on-site adjustments and ensures a smooth, hassle-free installation process.

The M+ pivot door hardware system offers several advantages:

  • Smooth and controlled door operation with adjustable speed and latch control
  • Slam-proof functionality for added safety and noise reduction
  • ADA Friendly Access
