Osmo Hardwax Oil Polyx Interior Oil Finish

Please note: In California, Osmo Polyx Oil cannot be shipped to Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernadino, or Riverside counties due to restrictions. Please see our OTC Complaint Polyx Oil from Osmo for an alternative.

This innovative interior wood finish forms a molecular bond with wood to protect it while maintaining an appealing, natural texture and soft sheen.Polyx Oil can be used for doors, furniture, and flooring. Give your wood product theprotection it deserves in a sustainable, non-toxic formula made from natural plant oils.

The Original Hardwax Oil from Osmo

This clear, transparent formula offers superior performance plus easy maintenance. Unlike urethane based finishes, you don’t need to sand down the wood to touch up the finish—simply reapply as needed. And since Osmo Polyx Oil bonds to the wood on a microscopic level, it won’t flake or peel off. This is what we use for most of our interior doors—for a product that performs well on high-density, high-oil content exotic woods, check out the Extra Thin version here. Osmo Polyx Oil enhances the natural color and texture of solid wood.

The Osmo Advantage:

  • Easy to apply – used by both professionals and homeowners
  • Extremely durable and hard wearing
  • Can be spot-repaired and refreshed with no sanding required
  • Micro-porous finish which does not crack, peel or flake
  • Resistant to water, dirt, juice, tea, cola, wine, beer, and coffee.
  • Enhances the wood’s natural character
  • Saliva-resistant and sweat-proof, suitable for children’s toys
  • Made in Germany – Conforms to strict EU safety standards

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Osmo Polyx Oil is ready to use—no need to thin it out. Stir well before using. Clean or slightly sand old microporous finishes and remove old varnish. Always wear a dust mask when sanding. Sand carefully before application. Remove dust from the surface with a brush or vacuum cleaner before application. The finished surface is influenced by the wood’s natural characteristics, therefore a trial application is recommended before finishing. The wood surface must be clean, dry, and frost free before applying finish.

Apply a thin, even coat along the wood grain. Ventilate well while the finish dries. Apply a second coat using the same method. For refreshing oiled/waxed surfaces, generally only 1 coat is required.

Drying time: Approx. 8 -10 hours (normal climatic conditions, 73 °F / 50 % normal humidity). Lower temperatures and /or high humidity can increase the drying time. Always err on the side of caution; there is no need to rush. Allowing complete drying between coats means that the finish will absorb better and perform better.

WITH A BRUSH OR ROLLER

First Coat: Apply one thin coat with an Osmo Floor Brush or Osmo Floor Roller. Our rollers have a 4.5mm nap.

  1. Stir the Polyx®-Oil well and prior to use
  2. Brush or roll the product thinly and evenly onto the floor.
  3. Do not remove excess product, this will absorb into the wood surface over the drying period
  4. Allow 8-10 hours drying time prior to proceeding to second coat

Second Coat: Roll or Brush a thin second coat

  1. Brush or roll the second coat thinly and evenly onto the floor
  2. Allow approximately 5-10 minutes for product to penetrate surface
  3. Allow 8-10 hours drying time. Allow for good ventilation whilst drying.

Third Coat: Usually a third coat is not required, however highly absorbent or dry timbers may appear to require a third coat.

Please consult OSMO technical support at 1-844-OSMOCAN prior to carrying out a third coat

Tinting: Osmo Wood Wax Finish can also be used to lightly tint Polyx®-Oil 3054 up to a ratio of 10:1. Do not exceed a ratio of 10 parts Polyx®-Oil 3054 to 1 part Wood Wax Finish.

Ex. For Natural (no colour change from raw wood) tint Polyx-Oil with Wood Wax Finish 3111 White at 3% for the base-coat, followed by a coat of clear (untinted) Polyx-Oil as a top-coat.

Cure Period: Osmo Hardwax-Oil(s) like all floor finishes have a cure period. We recommend allowing 2 weeks for the surface to fully cure and harden prior to damp-mopping or placing rugs/mats on the surface.

BY HAND WITH FLEECE APPLICATOR PADS

Apply two thin coats with our fleece applicator pads (best way to ensure you avoid over-application).

  1. Stir the Polyx®-Oil well and pour into tray
  2. Work the product into the wood thinly and evenly in figure 8 or circular motions using the fleece applicator pad
  3. Be sure to thinly and evenly coat the surface and leave on the surface for approx. 5 minutes
  4. Allow approx. 8-10 hours drying time. Allow for good ventilation whilst drying
  5. Apply second coat following previous steps.

BY HAND WITH A CLOTH/RAG

Apply three thin coats with a lint-free microfibre cloth. ie. Osmo Easy Pads.

  1. Stir the Polyx®-Oil well and prior to use
  2. Work product into wood using cloth in a circular or figure 8 pattern
  3. Allow roughly 15-minutes for oils to penetrate
  4. Working with the grain, remove all excess product from surface
  5. Allow 8-10 hours drying time prior to recoating
  6. Apply second and third coats following previous steps

WARNING: Cloths saturated with product are a spontaneous combustion hazard and should be left out unfolded until dried, prior to disposal or preferably stored in a proper fireproof container

  4. With a clean white pad, polish the surface ensuring no swirl marks, rings, or wipe marks
  5. Ensure all excess product is removed from surface
