A pivot door is a door that swings on a set of pivot hinges located at the top and bottom of the door. Standard entry doors have side-mounted hinges that connect to the jamb, while pivot door hinges connect the door to the header above the door and the ground. This design allows for smoother operation and enables the door to support larger and heavier panels compared to traditional doors.
Pivot doors can be made much bigger and wider than their swinging counterparts. This is because traditional hinges have size and weight limits. But a pivot hinge has a different relationship with gravity, and there aren’t sizing constraints. If you’re looking for a taller, wider entry door, pivot doors are the way to go.
Our pivot entry doors are made with solid wood and traditional joinery. This gives our doors a luxurious, premium look and feel. They are also built to last and withstand years of heavy use. You can choose from twenty wood species, including classics like White Oak or Cherry, and exotic imports like Sapele Mahogany. So no matter what your style is, you can find an option that’s right for you. Our pivot front door designs are elegant, proportional, and unique.
Yes they do! Kerfed weather stripping is standard on all entry doors. We also use a brush sweep on the bottom of the door to seal it against the elements,
Yes, you can! We chose the M+ pivot system from FritsJurgens because it can be adjusted to meet your needs. Manufactured in Germany to the highest quality standards, it's the most premium pivot option we could find. You can set opening and closing speeds, and damper control—so it will never slam. It also has latch control so the latching bolts will always close properly. The pivot is weight rated for doors up to 1000 pounds.
Yes. If you choose the “turnstile” option instead of the M+ pivot, your pivot door will swing both ways. If you get the turnstile, you’ll need to get a doorstop or something else to keep the pivot door from hitting the wall.
Pivot Doors: Strikingly Modern

Pivot hardware allows for much taller, wider door dimensions. So you can create a boldly regal entryway.

The M+ Pivot from FritsJurgens puts you in control of every detail: closing and opening speed, latch control, and soft close.

We pre-install the pivot hardware for smooth and easy installation.

A pivot door is a kind of swinging door that rotates on a vertical axis. The pivot hinge is set into the top and bottom edge of the door, instead of being attached to the side of the door and the wall.
RealCraft pivot doors stand out because of their unparalleled customization, solid wood construction, and expert craftsmanship. Each pivot door is made by hand in Gig Harbor, Washington State. Our pre-hung pivot doors come fitted with a pre-installed FritsJurgens M+ pivot--so installation is easy. The M+ has a range of customizations available, including opening and closing speed, hydraulic back check (to avoid the door hitting the wall), and soft close.
Yes, we value sustainability and healthy forests. For every door sold, RealCraft plants a new native tree in Oregon state to restore forests devastated by the 2020 Labor Day Wildfires. We work with Ecodrive to track the progress of this replanting.
Our doors have a typical lead time of anywhere between 6-10 weeks but this is subject to change based on order volume or any special order materials. The lead time begins once the customer signs the shop drawing.
We recommend that unless you are very experienced with home improvement projects or have a background in construction, you hire a contractor to install your new door. Paying a professional ensures that you avoid amateur mistakes that can cost even more in the long run. And if the door is installed well, that adds to its longevity, preventing problems like water damage. Typically it doesn’t take long to install a new door, whether it’s just the slab or pre-hung with the jamb. It usually takes a few hours. Reframing takes longer, up to a day or more. For more details, please see our Door Installation Instructions.
Our doors are designed to be low maintenance. But you may need to make some tweaks here and there. If you live in a place that has big temperature changes between seasons, you may need to tighten or lubricate your hinges. You should also adjust the door sweep to make sure it keeps the door sealed against the elements. It may wear down with time and need to be adjusted.
Our luxe finishes are a combination of an oil stain with a water-based top coat. Light sanding and reapplication of the topcoat may be necessary every 2-5 years depending on your unique situation. Full refinishing is recommended once every ten years.
If your door gets dirty (weather, pets, children, etc.) you can clean it with a gentle soap and water. If you have to clean the hinges for any reason, make sure they dry thoroughly.

When well-cared for and properly installed, a high-quality exterior door lasts for decades. We use traditional joinery methods to improve the longevity of our exterior doors.
Door handing can be tricky because different companies use different terminology. We prefer to keep things simple. The best way to figure out the door handing is to stand with your back to the side of the door jamb/rough opening where the hinges will be (or the side where you want the pivot to be if buying a pivot door). Then pretend that your arm is the door. If you want a door that opens to your left, it will be a left handed door. If you want a door that opens to your right, it will be a right handed door.
Still have questions? Watch our video Inswing vs Outswing and Door Handing, Explained.
If your door is to be an inswing door, that means it will swing into the house. If it’s an outswing door, it will swing out from the house, towards the outside. Most exterior doors are inswing. That’s because an inswing exterior door places the hinges on the inside of the house, where they’re protected from the elements. Outswing exterior doors must have hinges made from weather-resistant materials like stainless steel or brass.

There are a couple reasons why you may want to replace your existing door. The first is if the door is warped enough that it doesn’t function well, or if it’s too old to restore.
The second is if you’re deciding to remodel your home or change other aspects of the exterior, like paint, roof materials, or windows. Replacing the front door keeps everything cohesive and beautiful. It may even add to your home’s value, and it improves the curb appeal.
