The Faux Dutch Sliding DIY Barn Doors Your Farmhouse Needs

The Rancher Half X Sliding DIY Barn Door is a charming farmhouse classic. Like our Half Z Barn Door, the Half X Sliding Barn Door was inspired by the Dutch doors commonly found in equestrian stalls. It combines that Dutch door look with the space-saving functionality of a sliding barn door, so you get the best of both worlds. This Faux-Dutch barn door is crafted with solid wood planks, featuring four vertical stiles and three horizontal rails, plus two diagonal half-braces on the lower half of the door creating the trademark X brace. This door is perfect for the following decor styles:

  • Farmhouse
  • French Farmhouse
  • Minimalist
  • Scandinavian

It's available in twenty wood species, giving you the most genuine wood options of any barn door on the market. With so many options, you're sure to find a wood type that aligns with your unique aesthetic. Some popular choices for this door include:

  • Premium Walnut
  • Sapele Mahogany
  • Knotty Alder
  • Quarter Sawn White Oak

The primary advantage of a sliding barn door? It saves space in areas where a swinging door would take up too much valuable floor clearance. That's why we love it for pantries, linen closets, storage closets, and powder rooms. It's also ideal for home offices or children's playrooms. If you have a tight hallway, or a corner where swinging doors just get in the way, then a barn door frees up space to move around. Interior barn doors also create instant architectural interest in spaces that might lack it.

Pair this door with one of our sliding hardware kits to complete the look! We love the Horseshoe kit for this door, with hangers that look like horseshoes in keeping with the farmhouse look, or pair with our Classic Flat Track for a timeless and sleek final look.

Skilled artisans make all our doors by hand onsite in Gig Harbor, a small seaport town on the Puget Sound in Washington State.

Please note that doors will ship separately from sliding hardware when purchased together. Doors are pictured with hardware for context. Sliding hardware is sold separately, and not included with the purchase of a door. Doors are not pre-drilled for hardware. If you order a door and a hardware kit, we are unable to ship hardware installed on doors due to the risk of damage in transit.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, andcan't guarantee against warping or damageif you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-253-853-3815 and we’ll be happy to help!

If you wish to customize the door even further, we can make your dream door a reality! Please understand that customization will add to the lead time. If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-253-853-3815

When determining the size of your barn door, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway to minimize gaps and provide some sound-muffling for privacy. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule of thumb for barn doors. For example, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door. If you would like more sound sealing, then a 2-inch overlap on either side is best. To make sure it looks as intentional as possible, your barn door should also completely cover any molding on the door opening when closed. So if you have molding, you’ll need to factor that into your measurements as well.

RealCraft offers twenty different wood species from budget-friendly to exotic and rare. One of the reasons we love real wood so much is that it carries the character of its natural habitat and is a living, breathing material. Wood species respond differently to humidity and temperature conditions. If you aren't sure which wood species to pick, call us at 1-253-853-3815.

We recommend adding a clear finish to your door to protect it and ensure that it is  eligible for coverage under our warranty.A clear finish not only protects your door, it also enhances the door’s beauty while preserving its natural, unique texture. Clear finish brings out the color and detail of the wood grain.

We offer the following finish options:

White Primer: Added to Paint Grade Hardwood. For this option, we use only high-quality hardwoods like European Beech or Red Grandis. These species provide a smooth surface for paint.

Clear Satin EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that conditions, seals, and finishes the wood.

Oil Stain EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that stains, seals, and finishes the wood.
