As the name suggests, the Mid-Century Modern Center Bar barn door design has a center bar in the center of the door creating two separate panels. It's inspired by the Modern design movement of the mid century: fidelity to true materials, clean lines, and minimal ornamentation. If you've been searching for an authentic MCM door design, this is the one for you. This interior barn door comes in two different panel styles: tongue & groove or flat panel

For the tongue & groove panel construction, multiple horizontal wood planks are attached together by hand on each side of the center bar, which creates a traditional look and texture. In the flat panel construction, two solid wood panels flank either side of the center bar, which gives the door a more contemporary look.

This door is versatile and works with many decoration styles, including:

  • Traditional Décor
  • Modern Décor
  • Mid-Century Modern Décor
  • Shabby Chic Décor

The Mid-Century Modern Center Bar Sliding Barn Door is suitable for both residential and commercial projects. Sliding barn doors save floor space and open up areas of the home where that floor clearance really counts. They also add visual interest and can act as architectural focal points for spaces that need visual anchoring. Some popular uses for barn doors in homes include:

  • Office Door
  • Living Room Door
  • Laundry Room Door
  • Kitchen Door

Wood Species

RealCraft is proud to offer over 20 beautiful wood species, from classic domestic hardwoods to luxe exotic options. Some popular wood species for this door include:

  • Sapele Mahogany
  • Plain Sawn White Oak
  • Maple
  • Cherry

Whatever species you choose will influence the final look of your door, so it's smart to consider multiple options based on your unique taste.

Pair this sliding barn door with your favoritebarn door hardwarefor and even more interesting look. For a door this sleek and modern, we recommend the Hex Bar or Swiss Rod hardware kits, which have a mid-century feeling, too.

Skilled artisans make all our doors by hand onsite in Gig Harbor, a small seaport town on the Puget Sound in Washington State.

For frequently asked questions about choosing a door and hardware see our FAQ page.If you're not sure what species is right for your space, or want to see the wood in person, you canorder samples here

Please note that doors will ship separately from sliding hardware when purchased together. Doors are pictured with hardware for context. Sliding hardware is sold separately, and not included with the purchase of a door. Doors are not pre-drilled for hardware. If you order a door and a hardware kit, we are unable to ship hardware installed on doors due to the risk of damage in transit.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, andcan't guarantee against warping or damage  if you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-253-853-3815  and we’ll be happy to help!

If you wish to customize the door even further, we can make your dream door a reality! Please understand that customization will add to the lead time. If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-253-853-3815

When determining the size of your barn door, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway to minimize gaps and provide some sound-muffling for privacy. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule of thumb for barn doors. For example, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door. If you would like more sound sealing, then a 2-inch overlap on either side is best. To make sure it looks as intentional as possible, your barn door should also completely cover any molding on the door opening when closed. So if you have molding, you’ll need to factor that into your measurements as well.

A Refined Mid Century Interior Barn Door

RealCraft offers twenty different wood species from budget-friendly to exotic and rare. One of the reasons we love real wood so much is that it carries the character of its natural habitat. Wood species respond differently to humidity and temperature conditions. If you aren't sure which wood species to pick, call us at 1-253-853-3815.

We recommend adding a clear finish to your door to protect it and ensure that it iseligible for coverage under our warranty.A clear finish not only protects your door, it also enhances the door’s beauty while preserving its natural, unique texture. Clear finish brings out the color and detail of the wood grain.

We offer the following finish options:

White Primer: Added to Paint Grade Hardwood. For this option, we use only high-quality hardwoods like European Beech or Red Grandis. These species provide a smooth surface for paint.

Clear Satin EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that conditions, seals, and finishes the wood.

Oil Stain EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that stains, seals, and finishes the wood.
