Osmo Interior Oil Stain

Please note: In California, Osmo Oil Stain cannot be shipped to Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, or Riverside counties due to restrictions.

Color and protect wooden floors or furniture with Osmo Interior Oil Stain. This versatile product can be applied two ways: a single coat will create a transparent, subtle wash of color, while an optional second coat gives more intensive color payoff. Finish with a coat of clear Osmo Polyx®-Oil to protect the natural, mineral-based pigments.

Stunning Color Oil Stain for Interiors

Osmo Oil Stain is perfect as a colored base coat for all wood floors, including solid wood, plank, strip, OSB and cork flooring, as well as stairs, doors, and furniture surfaces. You can apply it once for a transparent, sheer wash of color, or twice for intensive payoff. It is benzene-free and based on natural oils and organic pigments, and meets strict EU safety standards.

Please note: intensive application of white finish is not recommended for flooring.

The Osmo Advantage

  • Extremely durable and hard-wearing
  • Very water and dirt resistant
  • Understated, natural colors
  • Ideal for commercial use
  • Suitable for all woods including exotic woods
  • Resistant to common liquid spills like water, juice, tea, cola, and wine
  • Saliva-resistant and sweat-proof
  • Micro-porous finish which does not crack, peel, or flake
  • No sanding necessary for spot repairs or future applications
  • Made in Germany – Conforms to strict German and European norms
  • See how Osmo compares to other finishes here.

Preparation

  • Old wood finishes including wood oils, stains, paints and lacquers must be fully removed before staining.
  • Wood surface must be clean, dry and frost free (moisture content max. 20%)
  • Small cracks, larger gaps, or holes in the wood can be filled with a wood filler
  • Wood surface needs to be sanded carefully, final sanding for flooring P100-150, furniture P180-240
  • Remove abrasive dust with a vacuum cleaner before applying the wood stain
  • Wooden surfaces can be de-greased with white spirit to remove surface contaminates

Application

Always do a test area before starting any project to check suitability and compatibility.

Depending on the desired result, use either the Osmo Floor Brush, a Osmo Roller or the Osmo Double Blade Scraper for application. If using the Osmo scraper, massage the wood stain into the surface of the timber with a single disk mechanical buffing machine and white buffing pad.

  1. Product does not need to be thinned, stir periodically throughout application process
  2. Ensure good ventilation during application and drying
  3. For a more intensive color tone, a second coat may be applied
  4. For furniture, apply with a lint-free cloth
  5. A top coat of Polyx-Oil must be applied to properly seal the finish.

Transparent tones: One coat of Oil Stain

Intensive tones: Two coats of Oil Stain

Finishing Methods

The majority of the Osmo Oil Stains should finished with Osmo Polyx Oil for best results, but the following color tones and circumstances require special attention:

  • Osmo Oil Stain – White (3501): Over-coat with Osmo Polyx-Oil 3031 Matte or Osmo Top-Oil 3025 Natural to avoid an off-white or yellowing of the finish. Intensive application of White on flooring is not recommended.
  • Osmo Oil Stain – Natural (3519): Osmo recommend applying a thin coat using either a floor brush or microfibre roller. After drying, a clear coat of Osmo Polyx Oil should be applied. The wood surface looks natural with no darkening of the timber. The finish may appear chalky on red /dark wood species.
  • Dense exotic hardwoods or oily woods such as Wenge, Meranti, Merbau etc require Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin (1101) as a top coat.

Cleaning of Wooden Floors and Furniture

Wooden surfaces should never be steam cleaned or saturated with water.

Regular Cleaning

For day to day cleaning, use a vacuum cleaner or dry sweep / wipe to remove dust and dirt particles from the surface. To remove dirt, shoe scuffs and other surface marks, we recommend Osmo Wash and Care (8016) and a slightly dampened mop or cloth.

Deep Cleaning

For a deeper clean to remove stubborn scuffs and marks, use a stronger concentration of Osmo Wash & Care with a damp cloth or mop. An alternative solution may be to use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.

Repair

For wooden floors and surfaces that have become dull, scratched or stained, lightly sand with a finishing pad or fine grit sandpaper to remove the damage, before applying a fresh coat of Osmo Polyx-Oil to the effected area. Take care not to sand the area back to bare wood by removing the oil stain.

CAUTION: cloths, steel wool, or other materials saturated with this product are combustible and may spontaneously catch on fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after use, place rags, steel wool or waste in a sealed water filled metal container.  See product information page document in Technical tab for more information.
