Rancher Half-Z Sliding Barn Door DIY Kit

A faux Dutch door look with the sliding door functionality you love. This sliding barn door is crafted out of solid wood, and available in 20 different wood species, which means you can design a door that coordinates with your space. Featuring a diagonal brace on the lower half of the door, the Double X Sliding Barn Door is just what you need to add a touch of rustic charm to your space.

Equestrian Inspired Sliding Barn Door DIY Kit

The Rancher Half Z Sliding Barn Door was inspired by the Dutch doors commonly found in equestrian stalls. It combines that Dutch door look with the space-saving functionality of a sliding barn door, so you get the best of both worlds. This Faux-Dutch barn door is crafted with solid wood planks, featuring four vertical stiles and three horizontal rails, plus one diagonal half-brace on the lower half of the door, which makes a Z. It's ideal if you want a rustic look that's still streamlined and minimal. This door is perfect for the following decor styles:

  • Farmhouse
  • Industrial Farmhouse
  • Minimalist
  • Scandinavian

The primary advantage of a sliding barn door? It saves space in areas where a swinging door would take up too much valuable floor clearance. That's why we love it for pantries, linen closets, storage closets, and powder rooms. It's also ideal for home offices or children's playrooms. If you have a tight hallway, or a corner where swinging doors would be cumbersome, then a barn door frees up space to move around. Interior barn doors also create instant architectural interest in spaces that might lack it.

RealCraft was one of the first companies to create high-quality DIY barn door kits. As an early innovator, our quality standards are sky-high.

Pair this door with one of our sliding hardware kits to complete the look! We love the Horseshoe kit for this door, with hangers that look like horseshoes, or pair with our Classic Flat Track for a timeless and sleek final look.

RealCraft offers twenty different wood species from budget-friendly to exotic and rare. One of the reasons we love real wood so much is that it carries the character of its natural habitat. Wood species respond differently to humidity and temperature conditions. If you aren't sure which wood species to pick, call us at 1-253-853-3815.

We recommend adding a clear finish to your door to protect it and ensure that it is eligible for coverage under our warranty. A clear finish not only protects your door, it also enhances the door’s beauty while preserving its natural, unique texture. Clear finish brings out the color and detail of the wood grain.

Please note that DIY assembly barn doors are only available to ship unfinished. We recommend applying a clear finish to your planks within five days of delivery, once the wood has acclimated to its surroundings.

We offer the following finish options:

White Primer: Added to Paint Grade Hardwood. For this option, we use only high-quality hardwoods like European Beech or Red Grandis. These species provide a smooth surface for paint.

Clear Satin EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that conditions, seals, and finishes the wood.

Oil Stain EuroFinish by Osmo: A premium hand-rubbed hardwax oil that stains, seals, and finishes the wood.

Check out our Wood Species Visualizer below to compare the raw wood with finished wood and explore our wood species options. Slide the toggle to the left for unfinished wood, and slide the toggle to the right for wood finished with Clear Satin EuroFinish.

Skilled artisans make all our doors by hand onsite in Gig Harbor, a small seaport town on the Puget Sound in Washington State.

For frequently asked questions about choosing a door and hardware see our FAQ page. If you're not sure what species is right for your space, or want to see the wood in person, you can order samples here

Please note that doors will ship separately from sliding hardware when purchased together. Doors are pictured with hardware for context. Sliding hardware is sold separately, and not included with the purchase of a door. Doors are not pre-drilled for hardware. If you order a door and a hardware kit, we are unable to ship hardware installed on doors due to the risk of damage in transit.

This door may not be compatible with select barn door pulls because it has a mid-bar. Please bear this in mind when selecting hardware for your door.

We designed these doors with interior applications in mind. We don't recommend exterior use, and can't guarantee against warping or damage if you install your door outside. To have this door specially crafted for exterior use, call us at 1-253-853-3815 and we’ll be happy to help!

If you wish to customize the door even further, we can make your dream door a reality! Please understand that customization will add to the lead time. If you need more than 10 doors, or if your project requires special consideration, please call 1-253-853-3815

Financing

We’re proud to offer Shop Pay Installments! Buy today and pay in 4 or more payments starting at 0% APR. If you finance your purchase with Affirm (Shop Pay Installments), your first payment is due approximately two weeks after your purchase is finalized. Please note that due to extended delivery times, your loan payment(s) may be due before you receive your purchase.

When determining the size of your barn door, we recommend that the door overlaps the doorway to minimize gaps and provide some sound-muffling for privacy. An inch of overlap on each side is a good rule of thumb for barn doors. For example, a 36” x 80” doorway would need a 38” x 81” sliding barn door. If you would like more sound sealing, then a 2-inch overlap on either side is best. To make sure it looks as intentional as possible, your barn door should also completely cover any molding on the door opening when closed. So if you have molding, you’ll need to factor that into your measurements as well.
